I am a civil engineer specializing in water resources and environmental engineering. I obtained my PhD (civil and environmental engineering) from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) in 2011, M.E. (water resources engineering) from Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand) in 2006, and B.E. (civil) from Institute of Engineering (Nepal) in 2003. My research interests are mainly related to modeling of water resources systems (hydrologic and hydraulic), surface water groundwater interaction, climate studies, hydrologic forecasting, environmental impact assessment (water quality modeling), water supply engineering, and GIS applications in water resources.

I just started doing researches on development of ecological modeling and climate impact studies with fish ecology. Especially, I currently assist researches on bull trout and water temperature monitoring, which are performed by local offices of U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Forest Service. I graduated from Murray State University in Kentucky for M.S and Auburn University in Alabama for Ph.D. in 2001, and went back to my home country, Republic of Korea. For last 10 years, I had worked in the Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT) and the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K water) related to ecological risk assessment, environmental impact assessment, and fish ecology.

Graduate Students

Mohammad Sohrabi Mohammad Sohrabi (current Ph.D. student), Since 2010
Hi, I am am Mohammad Sohrabi. I received both my bachelor and master in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering from Iran, Tehran University and Bu-Ali Sina University, respectively. My master thesis was about climate change and investigating significant trends in precipitation and temperature. Now, I'm PhD student, Graduate Research assistant, of Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

My interests include 1)Impacts of climate change, particularly on water resources, 2)Climatic extreme events, 3)Stochastic hydrology and forecasting, and 4)METRIC (mapping evapotranspiration at high resolution and with internalized calibration)

David J. Hoekema "David J. Hoekema (current Ph.D. student)", Since 2011
I am a civil engineer. I have both a bachelor's and master's degree in civil engineering. I received by bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Idaho in 2002 and a master's degree from Boise State University in May 2011. My research focuses on reservoir operations modeling, impacts of climate and water conservation on the water budget within basins. My current research is focused on how climatic variability impacted water resource development in the East Snake Plain from 1870-1928 and how water supply forecasts and market price of crops impacts water supply. I am also a current participant on the East Snake Plain Hydrologic Modeling Committee. When not conducting research, I enjoy participating in engineering outreach activities with youth, coaching, and spending time with my family.

Jungjin Kim "Jungjin Kim (current Ph.D. student)", Since 2011
Hi, my name is Jungjin Kim. Now, I am a Ph.D. student of Biological & Agricultural Engineering. I received my M.S. and bachelor from Environmental Engineering Department at Andong National University, Korea. My M.S. research focused on analysis of BMPs effectiveness on hydrology and non-point source pollutant load for Low Impact Development (LID) application. My research interest include watershed modeling using HSPF, L-THIA, and SATEEC, low impact development (LID), and best management practices (BMP).

Mark Cecchini Beaver "Mark Cecchini Beaver (current M.S. student)", 2009-2010
I am a concurrent law and water resources master student in the University of Idaho's Waters of the West Program. Prior to attending U of I, I worked as an environmental geologist for a major engineering firm. This experience shaped my interest in both the legal and scientific dimensions of water resource issues. My research is focused on the intersection between law and water resource science and management. I am particularly interested in using systems dynamic modeling to evaluate and support water resource decision-making in western watersheds.
